Event Details

Turn a day off into a day on in Acworth! The Acworth MLK Celebration and Day of Service will be held Monday, January 19, 2026. Everyone is invited to join the City for a light welcome breakfast at 8:30 a.m. at the Roberts School Community and Education Center.  Following the welcome breakfast, the Unity Walk will begin at 9:15 a.m. and leave from the Roberts School and finish at the Acworth Community Center.

A program honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Tanyard Creek Overlook at the Acworth Community Center.  After the program concludes, guests can join this years’ service project in partnership with Georgia Kids Belong. MLK Day of Service merchandise will also be for sale at the Acworth Community Center leading up to and on the day of the event. All proceeds will go towards the Acworth Expanding Horizons Foundation Inc to support the Expanding Horizons and Acworth Achievers programs. Leading up to the event, the Acworth Parks, Recreation and Community Resource Department will hold donation drives for Family Fun Night & Hygiene Kits to support foster families in the Acworth community with Georgia Kids Belong. Donations can be dropped off at the Acworth Community Center.

Items Needed:

  • Family Fun Nights Donation Drive: New or gently used card games, board games, decks of cards, dice, puzzles, popcorn, sudoku, books, crossword puzzles, etc.
  • Hygiene Kit Donation Drive: Toiletry bags/Ziploc, toothbrush, toothpaste, small hairbrush, small lotion, wash cloth, ChapStick, small body wash, small shampoo, deodorant.

Day-of Service Projects:

  • Sort donated items for family fun nights and hygiene kits.
  • ‘Cards for Kids in Care’ Making Station: Create encouraging and uplifting cards for foster kids with words of love and support that show them they belong.
  • ‘Belong Bracelets’ Making Station: Foster kids participating in the I Belong Project receive “Belong Bracelets” similar to friendship bracelets that show love and care from the community. Bracelets can include words of encouragement like hope, belong and brave etc.
