African American Heritage in the City's Historic Parkside District The Acworth Rosenwald School, in Doyal Hill Park, was originally located on School Street and served as Acworth’s only African American school from 1925 to 1948. The school had two teachers who instructed different grades with a removable wall separating the main space into two classrooms. The Rosenwald School was constructed on School Street in 1924. Rosenwald Schools were part of a partnership between Julius Rosenwald (Sears Roebuck and Co.) and Booker T. ACWORTH HISTORY: THE ROBERTS SCHOOL

The Roberts School was constructed in the late 1940s on the site of the original location of the Acworth Rosenwald School before it was dismantled and rebuilt as a community center on Cherokee Street. The Roberts School served as a segregated school for Acworth's Black community until 1968 when integration moved students to Acworth Elementary and Awtrey Middle Schools. Today, the Roberts School serves as a community center allowing rentals of the cafeteria space for family functions and meeting spaces for city non-profit groups. Overlooking Acworth's Parkside District on opposite sides of Logan Farm Park are two beacons of community reminding the city of its rich African American history and culture, Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church and Zion Hill Baptist Church have stood tall in the heart of Acworth's Black History since Emancipation. Bethel A.M.E's congregation began in 1863, and its current location on School Street was built around 1878 by freed slaves. Since 1949, the National Civic League has recognized and celebrated the best in American civic innovation with the prestigious All-America City Award. To celebrate the ongoing work of past winners, the National Civic League sponsors a Hall of Fame Award to recognize an outstanding civic engagement initiative in the community since winning the All-America City Award. After he sold his first small business, Toby began seeking other ways to support the Acworth community. The idea of opening a wine market was happenstance, and “came to fruition as an ability to turn around and give back.” Each month, TRG Vino Market hosts wine tastings and partners with local and Georgia-based charities. To give back, the Market donates 50% of ticket proceeds and 10% of bottle sales to the cause.
